A tattoo should feel considered from the first conversation to the finished piece. At Woodhaven Tattoo, we work with clients who arrive with everything from a detailed reference to a rough idea they have been carrying around for years. We help turn that starting point into artwork that makes sense for the placement, scale, style, and person wearing it.
Our work includes black and grey tattoos, portraits, fineline pieces, color tattoos, cover-ups, and piercing. We serve Woodhaven along with Ozone Park, Cypress Hills, Richmond Hill, South Richmond Hill, Lindenwood, and South Ozone Park. Whether you are planning your first tattoo or adding to an established collection, we keep the process clear and give the details the time they deserve.
Woodhaven Tattoo grew from owner and tattoo artist Mateo Rivera's belief that good tattooing begins with listening. Mateo started drawing seriously as a teenager in Queens, filling notebooks with lettering, portraits, neighborhood scenes, and studies of the architecture he saw along Jamaica Avenue. After years spent developing his tattooing and working alongside other artists, he wanted to build a studio rooted in the part of New York that shaped his eye.
Today, Mateo works alongside artist Lena Park and piercing specialist Andre Collins. The three bring different strengths to the studio, but they share the same approach: explain the process, respect the client's idea, never rush permanent work, and pay attention to the small decisions that make a piece feel complete.
More about us
Our services cover a range of tattoo styles and piercing needs. Black and grey work focuses on contrast and shading; portrait tattoos depend on proportion and recognizable detail; fineline tattoos use restrained linework; color tattoos balance palette and readability; and cover-ups require careful planning around existing ink. Piercing appointments receive the same straightforward attention to placement and aftercare.

If you are nearby and have been thinking about a piece, start with the idea rather than worrying about having every detail figured out. Bring references, explain what you like, and tell us where you are considering placing it. We can talk through what translates well into a tattoo and what may need to change.

We use your references as a starting point rather than treating every request the same. Placement, scale, contrast, and the way the piece fits your body all matter.
We want you to understand the plan before permanent work begins. We talk through practical questions and make sure the direction is clear.
Our featured work ranges from subtle fineline pieces to portraits, black and grey designs, color work, and carefully planned cover-ups.
Woodhaven is part of our story, not just a location in the business name. We built the studio around serving the neighborhoods and people that shaped us.

Yes. References are useful for showing us the mood, subject, composition, or details you like. We can use that direction to plan a piece that works as a tattoo rather than simply treating the reference as a finished design.
Many existing tattoos can be improved or covered, but the options depend on the old ink's size, darkness, color, placement, and condition. We need to evaluate the existing piece before deciding what kind of new design is realistic.
Size depends on the design, placement, and amount of detail you want to preserve. We will explain when a design needs more room and when a smaller approach can still remain clean and readable.
